07 Jun Unique hen party ideas
As a bridesmaid, one of the most important jobs you’ll have is planning the hen party, and that itself is a difficult task. Sending out the invites for all the lucky girls (and guys!), planning transport and, of course, deciding where to go and what to do! It can be made even harder if you have a bride who doesn’t like to stick to the norm. It’s tough trying to think of alternative ideas and getaways that don’t include the stereotypical meal and a few drinks afterwards, especially if your bride is picky. We’ve come up with a few unique hen party ideas, so you can kick off your friend’s marriage in style!
1) Yoga Retreat
If dancing on tables fuelled by tequila isn’t your bride’s idea of a good night, then a yoga retreat or “zen party” might be the next best thing! In recent years there’s been a rise in healthy-themed hen parties, including ones centred around yoga, pilates or martial arts. You can find bespoke packages from companies and locations across the UK, which often include a combination of yoga classes, brunch, and spa sessions. So, why not ditch the booze and treat the bride to a detox weekend of relaxation and meditating? You’ll all feel a lot more refreshed the next day compared with a night out on the town!
2) Cookery Class
This idea is perfect if you have a bride that loves her food! Enjoy a glass of wine while you learn how to whip up a storm in the kitchen with a professional chef, before tasting the dishes you’ve made! Is your bride a fan of the Great British Bake Off? Well, there are plenty of ‘Bake Off’ themed cooking classes popping up across the country to have a go at! Take a page out of Mary Berry’s book and bake up a treat with your hen party, where you can learn to make bread, cakes or cupcakes and also enjoy afternoon tea with some fizz! There’s even a company that allows you to get your bridal party together in a kitchen with an ACTUAL Bake Off contestant. It’s a shame Paul Hollywood’s not there too…
3) Get Active
Are you and the other hens up for a challenge? Got a bride that’s super into her fitness? Then why not let the hen party have a go at a boot camp training session? It’d get you all super fit before the big day and allows you to all to have fun at the same time! Alternatively, you could organise for the group to take part in a fun run such as Tough Mudder or the Colour Obstacle Rush. These 5k and 10k courses are filled with obstacles and either colour bombs or mud!
4) Surf’s Up!
If your bride fancies trying something completely new that’s active and adventurous, then why not organise a surfing lesson for the party? Snowdonia in Wales isn’t exactly a surfing hotspot, but there’s an adventure park here that’s trying to buck the trend! Surf Snowdonia Adventure Parc have created a large lagoon, complete with a wave machine to produce waves large enough to surf. There’s beginner to advanced lessons available, as well as a bar, and even a ‘glamping’ area on-site. If Wales is too much of a trek, then you could always head to your nearest coastline where you’re bound to find a local surf school willing to teach your hen party a few tricks.
Whatever idea you run with, the most important thing to remember is to have fun! The bride will no doubt enjoy spending time with her best friends and family and will want nothing more than for everyone to have a good time. So, choose an activity that she will enjoy, but doesn’t exclude anyone!
