‘Tis The Season to Get Married

‘Tis The Season to Get Married

If ever there was a time for you to go all out and absolutely extra for a wedding, it’s for a Christmas themed one. Us Brits love any excuse to have another get together so holding your wedding in the festive season will make it even more magical. Here are some Christmas wedding ideas, tips and tricks to make your special day sparkle:

Nice day for a white wedding!

Obviously, you’ll still want the venue to look beautiful for your big day but how the outside looks will be everything for a winter wedding. The bigger the grounds, the more snow and the more “fairytale” your wedding photos will look. As the writer Khalil Gibran once said, “kindness is like snow. It beautifies everything it covers.”

The theme doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

If you’re not feeling the all-out-tinsel-and-stars kind of Christmas, getting your groomsmen to wear Christmas socks or jumpers for the photos will still make for some entertaining memories and a fun photo opportunity.

Get creative!

Christmas is the most decoration-friendly time of the year so don’t hold back with the creativity of the decorations. Make it as immersive and memorable as possible. Get that festive feeling by lighting cinnamon scented candles on each guest table surrounded by wreaths, snowflakes and glitter. If your venue doesn’t allow naked flames then hidden cinnamon diffusers will do the job.

Mrs. Claus takes the runway!

Faux-fur coats, sparkling diamonds and gorgeous boleros.. Oh my! A Christmas wedding dress can be anything you want it to be.

Embrace the season!

Odds are that the venue will already have decorations up. Ask if they’ll swap out the baubles to match your theme. It’s the little details like this that will really feel like the venue is all your own and the day is all about you.

Cake crazy!

Stray away from tradition with this one because let’s be honest: who doesn’t love a chocolate yule-log? It’s much more exciting than a regular old Victoria sponge.

Entertainment for everyone!

I once went to a wedding where they were playing the first movie they ever went to see together on a projector on the wall in the venue. It was on a loop while the music was playing but it kept the kids who attended busy and was a thoughtful touch, especially if you’re showing a film like It’s a Wonderful Life or something equally as Christmas-y. Getting the DJ or band to play the odd Christmas ballad will keep it in the spirit of things too!

Sparks fly!

Not only are sparklers far better for the environment than confetti, but they’re a lot prettier too. It’s a no-brainer.

Bringing people together.

Possibly the most simple way to make sure your guests have a good evening: mistletoe.

End the night with a random act of kindness.

Christmas is the time for giving. Set up a donation box to a charity of your choice and ask guests to make donations. If they don’t want to do that you can ask them to do one random act of kindness during the festive period instead.
