26 Jul How to prepare for a heatwave during a summer wedding
Weather is one thing you or your wedding planner cannot control, but you can prepare for any heatwave scenario that could take place! So, whether you’re planning on tying the knot in the UK or aboard, here are our top tips to help you be prepared for a summer scorcher on your wedding day!
1. Location, location, location
British weather is unpredictable – one day it can be cold and rainy, the next it’s forecast to be sunny and clear. If your wedding day unexpectedly falls into ta middle of a heatwave, then it’s best to talk to your venue about moving some (or all) elements outside. Setting up a marquee or shaded area outside the venue can be a good way to make the most of the good weather, but still ensuring there’s a comfortable area for your guests to keep cool. If you’re set on having the ceremony inside the venue, then your wedding planner can work with your venue to make sure there is enough ventilation to ensure a comfortable temperature.
2. Bridal prep
It’s important to make sure your bridal suite, and wherever the guests are getting ready, is a comfortable temperature first of all. It can get very hot for you and your bridesmaids to all be getting prepped in one room, especially with all the straighteners, hairdryers and curling tongs all going. If it’s looking like it’s going to be particularly hot on the day, consider asking your hairstylist and makeup artist if they can stay for any touch-ups throughout the day. Or, failing that, entrust one of your bridesmaids with an emergency makeup kit, ensuring it’s packed with tissue, powder, perfume and lipstick for any last-minute top-ups! Either way, this will make sure you’re looking your best for those all-important photographs!
3. Look after your guests
Ensuring your guests are comfortable and not sweltering out in the heat is a key priority for any summer wedding. It’s worth considering supplying your guests with fans, hats and suncream to keep them protected from the heat. Supplying your guests with these, as well as some sunglasses, with be much appreciated when the temperatures begin to rise. It’s good practice with any wedding, but if you haven’t already done so, make sure there are plenty of toiletries within the guest toilets. Things like deodorant, plasters and blotting papers will allow your guests to freshen up and feel comfortable. These little details can make all the difference!
4. Stay hydrated
Whenever a heatwave hits it’s always important to make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, and the same goes for your wedding day! Ensure you plan to keep yourself and your guests hydrated throughout the day. You can pop some bottles on the guests’ chairs at the ceremony, as well as keeping a couple nearby for yourself and your soon-to-be spouse! After the ceremony, you can make most of the hot weather by serving up a selection of delicious, chilled cocktails, as well as making sure you have a water station nearby too! If you really want to go all out, it could be worth considering hiring an ice cream van or cart to serve your guests fun ‘canapés’ that’ll keep them refreshed.
5. Have fun!
This is the most important thing! Make the most of it by adding in some fun outdoor games to the drinks reception, or host a large scale water fight for an unusual, but fun time. It’ll make for some great photographs! In the evening it could also be worth considering having your first dance al fresco too! Dancing the night away underneath the stars will make things relaxed and memorable for you, your guests and your spouse. Whatever you decide, remember that you’re one of the lucky few who have good weather and not rain on their big day. So, remember to relax and have fun!
