11 Apr How to plan the perfect proposal
It’s worth saying that a proposal should be as memorable as the wedding day itself – and as worthy of celebrating! It’s a moment that will change both of your lives. In the few minutes it takes to ask someone to marry you (or be asked), everything starts afresh. You’re now engaged and you’re ready to make a statement to your friends, family, the world, but most importantly, to each other – that you’re ready to spend the rest of your lives together.
In some ways, the proposal can be more important than the big day itself. It’s just between the two of you – a private declaration of love. It deserves to be special. So, if you’re thinking of popping the question, here are some quick and easy tips for how to make that special moment perfect.
Take them somewhere meaningful
As a couple, there will always be a few places in the world that you both hold close to your heart. Where you went for your first date, perhaps? Or your first holiday together? Somewhere with meaning for you as a couple will always be a perfect stage for your proposal. On the other hand, there’s also nothing quite like being shown somewhere new as well- an incredible viewpoint or unique place where your partner can be truly blown away (and surprised!).
Create a space just for the two of you
There are several ways you can decorate your chosen space, be it subtle or not. You could arrange flowers into the shape of a heart (or hiring a florist to do it for you), or even put out lettered balloons on a beach at twilight, surrounded by candles. For something a little more unique, you could even purchase a bench, leave it in the middle of a beautiful field at sunset and have the question engraved into it. Or you can even decorate your back garden with fairy lights, blanket and photo frames – the sky is the limit. In fact, skywriting itself is another fabulous idea!
Think outside the box
If a traditional proposal setting isn’t for you, then feel free to get creative! What interests does your partner have? Whether it’s their favourite band, movie, TV series or sports team, tying your proposal into something they’re passionate about will make it all the more special. Take them to see their favourite movie at an outdoor cinema under the stars, or plan a proposal on stage at their favourite theatre. The more creative you are, the more memorable it’ll be.
Include your friends, family and/or pet
If your partner is very close with their family, loves being with their friend 24/7, or is a proud parent, involving loved ones in the proposal is a great way to make it unforgettable and extra meaningful. Plus, if the key to your partner’s half is their furry friend, then why not include them in the proposal too? Whether it’s their beloved pet or their son/daughter, getting them to present the ring is sure to melt their heart. Although, if you are planning on including your pet, just make sure the ring is secured in a box and not at risk of being eaten!
Do it when they least expect it
Sometimes sunsets, dream holidays, romantic dinners and boat rides can arouse suspicion. If your partner suspects that it might be coming, each of these is a sure giveaway. For a true surprise, forget the ring, the fancy clothes, the getting down on one knee, and do it when you’re both at your most content – at the tennis courts, the breakfast table, even your usual walk with the dogs! Sometimes, the most mundane moments can truly be the most special.
