28 Jun How to choose the perfect suit for your wedding
Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. There are a lot of factors to take into account when purchasing a suit such as measurements, colour and style – so, we’ve put together our top tips to help out any grooms (or brides!) that are struggling to find their perfect look.
An essential piece of advice would be to make sure you get your measurements done by a professional. It’s a corner that a lot of couples choose to cut, but if your suit doesn’t fit, alterations later down the line can end up costing more than it would have originally.
If you know your measurements before you start shopping it can save you a lot of time – it will automatically eliminate certain styles and speed up the entire process. It’s important to make sure the suit fits well – you want it to feel snug, but comfortable enough to be able to move around freely throughout the day.
It’s also worth noting that different fabrics and shapes of the suit can vary from brand to brand, so be sure to experiment with different sizes until you find something that feels perfect.
Does it match your wedding theme?
You want to make sure you choose a suit that doesn’t clash with your wedding’s colour scheme, venue or theme. For example, if your wedding is a traditional black tie do, then a tweed suit isn’t going to work. Alternatively, pastel colours work well for a summer wedding, but not so much in the midst of winter! You need to take all of this into consideration when deciding on your suit’s colour, fabric & style.
Consider the season that you’re getting married in, also – you don’t want to be wearing a thick woollen suit in the middle of a heatwave. Likewise, a thin linen one will leave you shivering during those winter months. It’s also worth considering making sure your suit complements the bride’s outfit. Try finding a tie or shirt with a colour that matches the bride’s shoes or dress. The subtle details can really make a difference!
Pick a style and make sure you’re comfortable!
If you’re not sure on the style of suit you’re after, then it’s always best to look in magazines, on Pinterest boards, or social media for inspiration. This will be, without a doubt, the most important suit you’ll ever wear, so it is very important that you love the end result! The best thing to do is go into the tailors with an open mind – look at suits that may not be your usual colour/style as you may be pleasantly surprised!
Of course, make sure you feel comfortable in it. Feeling comfortable in your own skin is especially important on your wedding day. Brides are always advised to make sure they buy a dress they’re comfortable in, and the same goes for the groom! You need a suit to make you feel confident and get you looking your absolute best – don’t settle for anything that makes you feel less than that!
Stick to your budget.
Like most aspects of any wedding, it’s important to stick within your price range when it comes to picking a suit. Hiring a suit can be a good option if you’re trying to keep spend down – and it allows you to spend a bit more on accessories such as bow ties, watches and top hats!
On the other end of the spectrum, if you have cash to splash it could be worth considering a bespoke wedding suit. These are perfect for any groom that prioritises the fit and style of their suit. These are completely made from scratch using paper patterns cut specifically for the individual wearer – it’ll be a truly unique look. However, these are certainly the pricier option, and make sure you book way in advance as bespoke suits can take a while to make!
