15 Oct Choosing the perfect song to walk down the aisle to
So, forget the hundreds of tunes you’ve been stressing over and try to keep an open mind – here are our top tips for choosing that perfect aisle song.
It doesn’t have to be classical
A lot of brides often make the mistake of only focusing on traditional music, causing a serious impact to your range of choices. If you’re known as a loud & bubbly person, for example, walking down the aisle to a slow, low tempo tune may not be the best match for you. Don’t be afraid to look outside of the box – this song will set the tone for the entire day and it’s got to represent either yourself as a bride or the both of you as a couple. But, don’t feel like we’re knocking the classics. If you’ve been dreaming of gliding down that aisle to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Mendelssohn, then you should do just that.
Choose a song that makes you comfortable & confident
There’s nothing more important than feeling comfortable & confident on your big day and the thought of walking down the aisle can often stir some feelings of dread and embarrassment. That’s a perfectly normal feeling – especially if you aren’t somebody who enjoys being the centre of attention. Choosing a song that resonates with you as a person can really go a long way to helping you stride down that aisle with pride. Pick something emotive, which perhaps reminds you of a particularly happy memory. It will make you smile, laugh and maybe even have a little boogie – believe us, the jitters will disappear!
Talk to your DJ/band
If you’ve already sorted out your evening music, your chosen band/DJ could really help with choosing your aisle song. Let’s be honest, they’re the experts when it comes to music and they should already have a good idea of what you like as you will have sat down with them about the type of music being played at your reception. They’ll be able to offer some suitable suggestions or help you alter one you’ve already chosen.
Don’t be afraid of the mash-up
This is one for those brides who have their heart set on a few different songs. You may just be walking down that aisle for a minute or two, but that doesn’t mean you can’t mash-up your choices. This is your entrance and a mix of songs can be a lovely way to open up the ceremony. It could even be a nice touch to mash-up yours and your partner’s favourite songs. A little cheesy, but your friends and family are there to celebrate your love – this way you can give them the best of both worlds straight from the offset.
EVERY song is wedding-friendly
It’s a common misconception to presume that only certain types of songs can be played at weddings, but we’d like to dispel that stereotype. Sure, it may be worth ‘radio-editing’ any tunes that may not be suitable for the younger people in the crowd, but no song should be deemed unsuitable for your wedding. Who cares if the last few weddings you attended had a classic harpist playing gorgeous, tinkly music – if you want to shimmy down the aisle to ‘Sexyback’ – then do it. This is your day. You’ve put in the time (and the money!), enjoy it. There’s nothing more important than staying true to yourself.
So, there you have it – our top tips for choosing the ultimate song to walk down the aisle to. Forget everyone else, this choice is yours. And we’d suggest to go as wacky & memorable as possible.
